How can you test the effictivity of lemon peelings extract as an antibacterial

we have a research project and i don't know how to say it in our research paper. our research topic is: lemon peelings extract as a substitue to a commercial antiseptic.we need to determine the effectivity of the lemon peelings extract as an antibacterial. what do you call the process? from what i know we have to go to a scientist and then.. what?
