Hey Ya'll. I am 17 years old and I am having my first operation on Tuesday. It is for an impacted canine so they have to cut down to the bone and expose it then attach a chain and I have to have 20 stitches! I am really not concerned about this at all - My main concern is going under general anesthesia. I have extreme anxiety, and I have been worrying about this for DAYS now, ever since I found out the date of my surgery. Many sleepless nights recently! I am just so scared that I will die, I don't want to see a tunnel with a light at the end! I want to wake up! I am petrified! I seriously am so scared I am going to die. There are heart problems in our family and I a few nights in a row now I have woken up to my heart racing. It's weird, and sometimes my heart beat is irregular. I told my Mother I think I may have heart palpations but she said to stop being stupid - Should I tell the anesthetist about this anyway? What if I die? I think I am healthy.. I am not overweight.. what if this is God's plan for my life?! Should I cancel it?! someone help :'(

You'll be fine. It's very safe, and there's nothing to worry about.

General anesthesia always has risks, for anyone out there. BUT, you will be closely monitored, they will watch your vital signs and oxygen, etc. You will wake up.

The surgery will be fine. Modern anesthesia is very safe.
You should talk to your doctor about treating your anxiety disorder.

GENERAL ANESTHESIA , there's nothing to it, they put you to sleep and you wake up all better. Believe me I've had open heart.

just relax, anesthesia is like going to sleep, only chemically induced. you will wake up.
