im in 1st year hs and how do i solve this? please help?

"One of the two complementary angles measures three times the other. find the measure of each angle."

-
Complementary angles add up to 90 degrees.
If we let one of them be x, we know the other is 3 times that one so 3x.
3x + x = 90
4x = 90
x =22.5
3x = 67.5
Those are your two angles

Remember, two angles are complementary if they add together to get 90 degrees.

Let X be one of the angles.
Then, the other angle is 90 - X since X + (90 - X) = 90.

With this in mind, we have to create an equation from what we are given:

One of the complementary angles = 3 times the other

So, we get:

X = 3(90 - X)
X = 270 - 3X
4X = 270
X = 270/4
X = 67.5

Since X = 67.5, it follows that 90 - X = 90 - 67.5 = 22.5.

So, the angles are: 67.5 and 22.5

Two complementary angles are two angles that add to make 90.

Using the info above, these two equations are true:
x + y = 90
x = 3y

Where x is the larger angle, y is the smaller. This is a system of equations.

x + y = 90 --- {Remember that x = 3y}
3y + y = 90
4y = 90
y = 22.5

x = 3y
x = 3(22.5)
x = 67.5

Therefore, the two angles are 22.5, and 67.5.

-
Complementary angles mean that angle A + angle B = 90 degrees

so:

A + B = 90
B = 3A

plug equation 2 into equation one : A + 3A = 90, 4A = 90 , A = 22.5 degrees
B = 3A, B = 67.5 degrees.

Conclusion:

A = 22.5 degrees
B = 67.5 degrees

-
complementary angles SUM TO 90°
Θ +(3Θ) = 90 making Θ = 90/4 or (45/2)° = 22.5°

That makes the larger angle (3Θ) = (135/2)° = 67.5°

-
Let x = the first angle.

The second would be 3x.

So: x + 3x = 90

4x = 90

x = 22.5

Proof: 22.5 + 3(22.5) = 90

22.5 + 67.5 = 90

X+Y=90 OR X=90-Y
X=3Y+30 NOW SUBSTITUTE (90-Y) FOR X & SOLVE FOR Y
90-Y=3Y+30
-Y-3Y=30-90
-4Y=-60
Y=-60/-4

Y=15 ANSWER.
X=3*15+30
