12x^2 / 4x = 3x remainder 0
-4x / 4x = -1 remainder 0
-8 / 4x = 0 remainder -8

so your final answer would be 3x-1 remainder -8

or if you dont want a remainder....

12x^2 / 4x = 3x
-4x / 4x = -1
-8 / 4x = -2/x

so your final answer would be 3x-1-(2/x)
