This is a quadratic equation. Its graph is a parabola.
1) Write the equation as y=x^2+2x-3

2) Choose values for the variable x and figure out the corresponding value for y

3) Graph the point whose coordinates are (x,y) using a set of x and y coordinates

4) Repeat the steps until you get enough point to graph a parabola.

5) The values of x where the parabola crosses the x axis are the solutions

For example:

Pick x=2, and substitute it in the equation y=x^2 +2x -3. We have:
y=(2)^2 +2(2) -3 =5,we have the pair (2,5).Graph it.
Now pick x=0,then y=3. We have the point whose coordinates are (0,3). Graph it.(The y intercept)

If you are careful the graph will cross the x axis at x= -3 and x=1.These are the solutions.
