78 is bigger than 50, so the answer will be less than one. Put a decimal point and a zero on the end of the 50. I'm going to use asterisks to try to align everything as best as I can in here:

How many times does 78 go into 50.0? Try 0.6:

Multiply 0.6 by 78, subtract the result from 50, make sure it's less than 78, and bring down another zero if necessary:
0.6*78 = 46.8
50 - 46.8 = 3.2, which is less than 78, so you're good so far; bring down another zero. On paper, that should look something like

** -46.8
** = 3.20
How many times does 78 go into 3.20? Go from there.

5000 can go into 7800 only one time. So you write one above the last zero in 7800 and subtract 5000 from 7800 below it.

Since you now have 2800, which is less than 5000, put a decimal after the last zero in 7800 then write a zero next to it. Next, write a decimal next to the one on top- but DO NOT write a zero there. . "Bring down the zero" with an arrow pointing to the 2800 and write that 0 next to the 2800, making it 28000.
