000 = 400,forty ten thousands is greater than 58 thousands, because forty ten thousands is the same as 400 thousands,now it you meant to say thousandths, like the guy above is thinking you said, then his answer would be correct.......
The question is as follows
"which is the greater number, fifty-eight thousands or forty ten thousands."
explain reasoning; my friend and I were disagreeing on the answer.

58*1,000 = 58,000

40*10,000 = 400,000

forty ten thousands is greater than 58 thousands, because forty ten thousands is the same as 400 thousands, which is obviously greater than 58 thousands

now it you meant to say thousandths, like the guy above is thinking you said, then his answer would be correct. XD

fifty-eight thousandths=58/1000
forty ten thousandths =40/10000=4/1000
So the 58 one is bigger if you meant thousandths

Otherwise maybe you meant
58000<400000
