If you are dealing with area, you must square the conversion factor, and with volume, you must cube it.so while there are 100 cm in a meter, there are 10000 cm² in a square meterThere would be 1000000 cubic centimeters in a cubic meter.......
You are confused because wholes * wholes give bigger are results(4 * 8 = 32m^2),
but your problem is the 0.1 or 1/10 (decimal= fraction)
1/10 X 1/10 = 100....so fractions make smaller fractions when they multiply,
but then they do that to every number (think 1/2 of 100 is 50), so fractions are dividing a number into smaller pieces when they multiply.
Think of Grid paper 4 grids that are 1/10 each(4/10) by 8 grids that are 1/10 each(8/10)
gives you 32 grids that are 1/100 each (32/100).
Hope this helps you visualize the difference.
when dealing with linear measurement, you yse the conversion of units directly.
If you are dealing with area, you must square the conversion factor, and with volume, you must cube it.
so while there are 100 cm in a meter, there are 10000 cm² in a square meter
There would be 1000000 cubic centimeters in a cubic meter.
so 3200 cm² = .32 m²
0.4m X ..8 m = 0.32 m² or 3200 cm²
Hey . . . The area of rectangle will be .32 meter squar. . . Nd u r saying that if the dimensions r in cm then area will be 3200 cm square. . . There should be no confusion in it
If you multiply 2 numbers less than, you get a result that is less than either of the numbers. The area of .8 by .4 is .32 m^2, not m^3. To do the units conversion for area 1m^2=100^2 cm^2=10,000 cm^2.
