Calculator involved: TI-83 Plus by Texas Instruments. When I enter sin(45) I get .8509035245 every time
When I enter 45sin on the computer's calculator I get 0.707
Everywhere I look on the internet they say that sin(45) is equal to 0.707

Your calculator is probably in radians. You'll need to switch it to degree mode by pressing "Mode" then selecting "DEGREE."
-
sin(45) ≈ .8509035245
sin(45°) = √(2)/2 ≈ .7071067812
Simple answer: Press [Mode] and change to Degree mode.

the sine of 45 radians is 0.850903525
so your calculator must be set to use radian arguments, not degrees
