h=17.therefore, lngth of longer leg = h-2=17-2=15m-x = length of the hypotenusex - 2 = longer legthen, since this is a right triangle, we know a^2 + b^2 = c^2, or 8^2 + (x - 2)^2 = x^2.......

then,pythagoreas theorem,
h^2 = (h-2)^2 + 8^2
or, h^2 = h^2 -4h +4 +64
or, 4h=68
or, h=17.

therefore, lngth of longer leg = h-2=17-2=15m

-
x = length of the hypotenuse
x - 2 = longer leg

then, since this is a right triangle, we know a^2 + b^2 = c^2, or 8^2 + (x - 2)^2 = x^2.

Simplifying
64 + x^2 - 4x +4 = x^2
-4x + 68 = 0
-4x = - 68
x = 17
x - 2 = 15

-
let longer leg = x m
then hypotenuse = x+ 2 m

shorter leg = 8 m

by Pythagoras theorem x^2 + 8^2 = (x + 2 )^2

=>x^2 + 64 = x^2 + 4x + 4

=> 4x = 60

=> x = 60/4

=> x= 15
length of the longer leg = 15 meters.

-
x^2+8^2=(x+2)^2 , x=15
