Just subtract inner area from outer area.You get 72n+6n^2, so E none of the above.solution - since in the question it tells you that it will be 3 yards longer after you multiply the width, you will have to take 3 away from 62 and because there are two widths you will have to take it away twice.Im sorry if i confused you and I hope it helped!......
1) The length of a rectangular courtyard is 3 yards longer than triple the width. If the perimeter of the courtyard is 62 yards, what is the length of the courtyard?
A) 7 yards
B) 10 yards
C) 21 yards
D) 24 yards
E) None of these

1. let width = w
length = 3w+3
perimeter = 62 yards = 3w+3+3w+3+w+w
w = 7 yards.
length = 3(7)+3 = 24 the answer is D

2. Just subtract inner area from outer area. You get 72n+6n^2, so E none of the above.

The answer is 10 yards (b)

solution - since in the question it tells you that it will be 3 yards longer after you multiply the width, you will have to take 3 away from 62 and because there are two widths you will have to take it away twice.
after taking it away you will get 56
and since it tells you that you will have to multiply it 3 times to get the length of the rectangle you will have to divide by that number and since there are two lengths on a rectangle you'll have to divide it by 6 (3 multiply by 2 = 6) and since there are two widths youll have to divide by 8 (6 + 2 =8 )

so 56 divide by 8 = 7 +3 = 10 yards (you add three because it says it will be 3 yards longer)

I'm sorry if i confused you and I hope it helped!
