If not then it is not.Does this help?......
Ok the question is 'A triangular traffic island has measurements as shown is the island the shape of a right angled triangle? Explain with working and the triangle is as below (pretend the line missing is 4.5 m) how would you solve it?

1.5, |

4.2

If it were a right angled triangle then Pythagoras's theorem would hold true. That is the square of the hypotenuse will equal the sum of the other two squares.

The Hypotenuse here is 4.5m. Squared this equals 20.25

The other two sides are 1.5 and 4.2 these squared are 2.25 and 17.64 respectively.

Does 2.25 + 17.64 equal the same as the hypotenuse squared? If it does then it's a right angled triangle. If not then it is not.

Does this help?
