1: First expand the brackets
0.7*3x+0.7*2=1.1-x-3
2.1x+1.4=1.1-3-x
Now group the x together on the left and numbers on the right and add them up
2.1x+x=1.1-3-1.4
3.1x=-3.3
x=-3.3/3.1
x=-1.0645
2: Again first expand the bracket:
a+a-3=a+5-a-2
2a=6
a=3
3: Total = 300 m
First Piece = x m
Second Piece = 3x m
Third Piece = 2(3x) = 6x m
x+3x+6x=300
10x=300
x=30 m
4: Previous Salary = x
New Salary = 18165
% increase = 5%.
Hence, x+(5/100)x=18165
x+(5x/100)=18165
Multiply all terms with 100
100x+5x=1816500
x=1816500/105
x=17300
5: Perimeter = 92m
Width = x m
Length = x+16 m
2(x+(x+16))=92
2(x+x+16)=92
