I checked in the internet that Ecuador is bigger than the UK, and the same thing with Gabon bigger than the UK. But Gabon and Ecuador seem smaller than the UK, nevertheless it shows up to be that both countries are bigger than UK. Is it me or are the measurements wrong?

Here's a neat site. You can draw a map with one country overlapped on another.

The shapes of these countries are quite different, so it's still difficult.

Both countries look marginally bigger to me. Perhaps they seem smaller to you because they are both only a small part of a large continent.
