There are four categories of community; city, town, village and hamlet.
A city is characterised by a cathedral (i.e. the see of a bishop). A town lacks a cathedral but has a town hall (or at least town council). A village has a post office and a hamlet has none of the foregoing.
My favourite city is London; followed by Rome, Dublin and Sana'a but details of their merits are too vast to be explained here.
The main advantage of living in a city is the convenient availability of shops and services. The disadvantage is that the size of cities renders them impersonal.
