the most common and cheapest form of steel, it cannot however be hardened by heat treatment.......
Hi,could you please help me answer this question...If steel has a carbon content less than 0.90 percent, how does this affect the properties of the steel?

0.9% is classified as "high carbon" steel and is strong but not ductile. i.e. this is used to make springs and high strength wires etc..

above 1% is ultra high carbon steel and is used in specialist applications, above 2% is basically cast iron.

below 0.9% the steel becomes more ductile and its melting point generally rises, it becomes more ductile and malleable . once you head below 0.3% or so you are entering low carbon steel, the most common and cheapest form of steel, it cannot however be hardened by heat treatment.
