we did experiment on wood and we found it to be 70 N\mm^2 but i read concrete has compressive strength of only 42 Mpa,isnt that equal to 42 N\mm^2?
What am i missing..somebody help pleaseee

This is what you missed, firstly, different concrete has different compressive strength, depending on its purpose.
Lean concrete(unreinforced) may be as low as 5 MPa and reinforced concrete could be any where between 20 upto 50.
You are right in MPa is the same as N/mm2(newton per mm squared), they are practically the same units. However, I highly doubt the results of your experiments 70MPa is a large figure, even for reinforced concrete, let alone wood.
If that figure was right, we would have probably used bridges made of wood...unlikely. Try to research more on the type of woods and their compressive strengths.
Good luck.
