I read somewhere that the stars we see are in the past, Is that true?
So if that's true, hypothetically speaking; if I had a light big enough to be seen from light years away and I turn it off, the people (aliens) light years away would still see the light until time finally catches up? Im just trying to understand everything in a different perspective I guess.
Thanks

when i shout to you from across the room you are hearing into your past. it took time about 1/000 of a sec for each foot of distance for my voice to reach you at at the speed of sound
light speed is about 186,000 miles a second and light traveling for a year is a VERY VERY long distance
the sun is 8 light minutes away and the nearest star about 5 light years
the farthest we can see is about 14 billion light years away.. ( a billion is 1,000 x 1,000, 1,000)
you are absolutley correct. waht is 'real" depends on where you stand and how you move since we can only know wht we sense

After discovery elliptic orbits of planets all what you see on sky are on line.Only a few mans can send massages in future or get it from past as massages. There are strict rules for it (for objects it is sort of conservation). To see the past need know the math namely e^x. So it can be only as signs from past that is just available as reality.

Yes because it takes time for light to reach us. The light you see from the Sun is 4 minutes old. The image of the moon you see is about 1.5 seconds old. If you can spot the Andromeda galaxy, that image is 2.5 million years old.

Well when u look into space, everything u see happened a long time ago. This is because it takes so long for the light to get to us.
And yes your question is correct

Holy crap! Is your name really Demetrius?
You were one of the characters in the story I wrote recently..
And from Earth, when you look at space, you're looking into the past.
