Graphing one full period tells the whole story as additional periods are just repetition of the previous period.

If you start the graphs of the amplitudes of both the sine and cosine at 0 and wish to show a complete cycle of both the sine and cosine on the same graph then it is necessary to graph more than one period because the cosine`s corresponding amplitude lags 90 degrees behind the sine. I think this may be why two or more cycles are often shown when both are plotted on the same graph..
