something always seems to go wrong with my life, things go bad on important days and I'm wondering how many chances we have to take the FE given I may fail or not make it to taking it.

You can take the FE as many times as necessary to pass the exam. The PE has a cutoff limit, but thats years down the road. Some states record your FE exam scores while others don't. The NCEES answers many of these questions and others in their site.

3 in most states, but the more you do you have to request for permission from your state board of Engineers to take it.
