i got a dwi about 2 years ago. I've been working my way through college towards a BSME degree. I hopefully will have it in two more years. I'm at the point though that i will transfer to a 4 year school which means i will take out about $30,000 in loans by the time i am done. I am just wondering how much a dwi plays a role in being hired as an engineer. does it just come down to the company? do engineers mostly just use their personal vehicle? i am scared i will be in so much debt and not be able to get an engineering job.

I got a DWI when I was 19 just after my freshman year of engineering school, stupid mistake. I went on to get my bachelors and masters degree in mechanical engineering. I never had a problem getting an internship or my current job with the DWI and was never turned down because of it. Although every job I applied for the question was asked about misdemeanors and felonies etc on the application. I was straight forward and honest about it, I never tried to hide it. When asked about it I admitted that I had made a mistake and learned from it.
My advice to you is do as I did, never try to hide it and dont make excuses, own up to your mistake. I am not saying it wont prevent you from getting a job but trust me when I say people have done much worse than DWI and still get jobs as engineers.

As long as you don.t have a felony that would interfere with getting bonded or a security clearance. Borrow to avoid even a month failure to pay on your credit note.
