I'm looking for a transformer that will give a shock. Nothing harmful.

There are squirrels on my bird feeder, and they are very annoying. I want to make a shocker to scare the squirrels away.

My design will use a 1.5 to a 9 volt battery and some conductive coils. I need a transformer that will give the squirrels a shock. Maybe a 1:90 to1:180? I just can't find the right transformer.

Please stay on topic and look for transforrmers. In the past, some people will answer, "well, it might shock the birds" or "just use an electric spinner". That is not the point! Its about transformers!

Basically, I need a step-up transformer that will be able to provide a electric shock from a common battery. If I need to convert it to AC then I will do so. I just need the right transformer.

You don't need such a high turns ratio. The easiest way is to get a small mains transformer. Drive the secondary winding with a 9V square or pulse. If you get one with a split secondary winding you can drive each half alternately which will give you double the output. You will get a high voltage low current signal coming out of the primary winding. A 4VA transformer will be easily big enough and will also limit the amount of current that it can output to safe levels.

Example: a 115-0-115V / 6-0-6V transformer. Drive each 6V winding with alternate 9V pulses will give you +/-340V across the two primary windings.
Crank up the voltage slowly, you don't want a pile of dead squirrels.

Sometimes the windings are separate, especially on the primary, eg. 0-115 + 0-115. In which case, wire the 115 of one winding to the 0 of the other.
