Question about Sinkholes

Why are there so many Sinkholes happening?

I'm not sure why you presume that "so many" sinkholes are happening. Sinkholes are a fairly constant occurrence in regions with carbonate bedrock and moist conditions. This is because carbonate rocks like limestone can be dissolved by weak acid solutions, such as rainwater (which contains dissolved CO2, producing carbonic acid). Over time, percolating water can remove soluble minerals, creating a void which becomes vulnerable to structural failure if it grows too large to support the overlying sediment.

Sometimes human activity can accelerate this, namely by way of leaking water/sewer lines.

I don't know which area you are speaking to but sinkholes tend to open after extended drought and rapid heavy rain they are most likely to appear. The drought drops the water table and causes the soil to contract leaving ample direct channels through the plug. Heavy rain exploits the cracks and rapidly erodes the plug until it spalls off from the bottom up, typically.
