the 1st half has 1 Se ,the second has 1 Se,____ Se, Cl, Cl, Cl,......
im not really sure how to balance the chemical formulas,
they look like this example:

___ SeCl6 +___ O2 ---> ___ SeO2 +___ Cl2

the "___" are the blanks where im supposed to enter the amount of atoms to balance them.
how do i do this?

the answer is:

1 in the first blank...1 in the second blank and third blanks as well...and lastly a 3 on the last blank...

what you want to do is have a balanced equation. How my teacher showed me to draw a line fron the middle arrow throught the middle of the equation and then write the elements on eahc side.

the 1st half has 1 "Se" , 6 "Cl" and 2 "O"
the second has 1 "Se", 2 "O" and 2 "Cl"
so it looks like this:

____ Se, Cl, Cl, Cl, Cl, Cl, Cl _______+ O, O---->_____ Se, O, O +____ Cl, Cl

you want to multiply the numbers next to each elemnt so you have a "balanced" equation...

so the "Cl" in the second half would be multiplied by 3 (3 x 2=6) so now you have 6 "cL" in each side of the equation. and all the others need to be multiplied by 1 since they will give you the same amount because they need no changes to be made,=....

so yeah, hope it helps its kid of hard to explain through a computer....
