If you are a Chemist, how much traveling and driving do you have to do

write papers, and attend research meetings.......
I'd like to get married one day and have children. I'm interested in nanotechnology, chemical engineering, physics, technical writing, public health and medical engineering. I live in Florida and I'd like to spend most of the year in Florida.

What other things can you tell me about a day in your career life?

A chemist that works in the lab usually will not travel much, other than to attend technical conferences. The driving/travel is really dependent on what type of chemist. An environmental chemist might be out in the field a lot collecting samples. An organic chemist most likely is in the lab most of the time. A chemist in charge of a research group might travel a lot more to attend more conferences or to meet with customers.

A typical day for an organic chemist would be to set up reactions, get analytical data on compounds, record everything in your lab book, clean the lab, look up new procedures, read relevant journal articles, write papers, and attend research meetings.
