How do i find the % purity of a substance

[From: ] [author: ] [Date: 11-04-23] [Hit: ]
This would be 0.0379 x 151.7 of FeTiO3 = 5.BUt you start with 6.5.749/6.......
FeTiO3(s) + H2SO4(aq) -> TiO2(s) + FeSO4(aq) + H2O(l)

6.922g of umpure FeTiO3
TiO2 weighs 3.025g

pls show steps (: thankyou

-
Molecular mass of FeTiO3 = 151.7
Molecular mass of TiO2 = 79.9

You might get very slightly different values depending on your source of mass.

You have to assume that the above reaction is 100% converted and that there are no losses in the experiment.

Mol of TiO2 = 3.025/79.9 = 0.0379
This would be 0.0379 x 151.7 of FeTiO3 = 5.749 g

BUt you start with 6.992 g so the purity is

5.749/6.922 x 100 = 83%
