Why is CS2 Linear and not V-Shaped

[From: ] [author: ] [Date: 11-04-27] [Hit: ]
therefore linear is the only other possibility. (FYI, the correct terminology is bent not v-shaped). Hope that helps-why do you have cs2? are you poor? its free/via pirated,......
CS2 is linear because there are 16 total valence electrons and when you draw the lewis structure you will have Carbon double bonded to both Sulfur atoms, (FYI, carbon will NEVER be bent), in order for a molecule to be bent it must have lone pairs on the central atom. CS2 has no lone pairs on the central carbon, therefore linear is the only other possibility. (FYI, the correct terminology is bent not v-shaped). Hope that helps
