1.what does the small intestine do to the food that the frog eats
2.is there any food in the stomach of the frog
3. how do the muscular walls of the stomach held digestion
4.give two differences (other than length) between the large and small intestine
5.explain why in a frogs heart the ventricle has a thicker wall than the atrium
6.how does the length of the small intestine relate to its function in absorbing digested food
7.which muscles in the frog seem to be the largest and strongest. Why?
8.what role do the fat bodies play, explain

-
1. It absorbs the nutrients into the blood stream and passes the undigested wastes on to the large intestine
2. It depends on when the frog last ate. If it ate just before it died, then yes, there will probably be food in the stomach. If the food had already passed along, then no. It's all a matter of timing.
3. The stomach muscles help to grind and mix up the food, along with stomach fluids and enzymes, to turn the food into a liquid so it can flow along the small intestine.
4. The small intestine is narrower; the cells that line it are specialized for the absorption of nutrients; some of the cells in the small intestine produce digestive enzymes, especially in the upper portion, for the digestion of proteins, fats and carbohydrates. The large intestine is wider; it absorbs excess water back into the blood; it passes along undigested food for excretion from the body.
5.The ventricle has to pump the blood all over the body; the atrium only has to send the blood to the lungs.
6. The longer length gives more surface area so the maximum amount of nutrients can be absorbed before the food passes into the large intestine.
7. The muscles of the thigh, or its quadriceps. They are the muscles that enable the frog to hop and to swim, which means they are the major means of locomotion for the frog.
8. The fat bodies allow for storage of energy and also help protect the organs and keep the frog warm, which is especially important when they are hibernating in the mud in winter time.
If you think about it, these answers (with the exception of hibernation) apply to humans and most other higher animals. Organ systems become more similar with the advancement in evolution of the animal species.
