Simply saying it must have happened otherwise we wouldn't be here to discuss it does not qualify as a believable explanation.
We have never observed any instances of the creation of a new species due to selection, mutation, or other biological processes.

Basically, we have observed and continue to observe many many instances of genomes being drastically altered due to selection, mutation, or many other biological processes that change genes and could easily increase the size of a genome .
