I am going to PVCC in Arizona for GE but I don't know what I should do afterwards when I get to NAU

You'd need a PhD in astronomy, astrophysics, or physics to become a research scientist in the field. That's 8-12 years of college. And you don't get paid a lot considering how many years you spent in school - you could make a lot more as a medical doctor. Astronomers make in the 60k - 120k range depending on where they work and how long they've worked there. But after 4-8 years of grad school making 20k a year or less, that's a lot of money. Since it's a lot of college, don't try adding extra time to that. If you want to get into a top school, try getting involved in astronomy now by joining a local astronomy club and learning more about the field. I did that at your age.

If you're not brilliant in mathematics, don't even think about it.
