Did you actually READ the article, or did you just look at the pictures?
Quotes from the article:
"... a SUPER-HOT extrasolar planet twice the size and eight times the mass of our own."
"At 41-light years from Earth, the giant planet is considered uninhabitable."
"... the planet probably does not have a substantial atmosphere ..."
"On its sun-facing side, the surface has a temperature of 1,727 Celsius – or 3,140 degrees Fahrenheit – That’s hot enough to melt silver or aluminium."
How is that "earth-like"??? It is called a "super-Earth" because it is BIGGER than earth, and may contain water -- Superheated water, capable of cooking you to well-done in just a few seconds. AND, being EIGHT TIMES the mass of earth., it would have EIGHT times the gravity -- If you weigh 200 pounds on earth, you would weight 1600 pounds on this planet -- more than three-quarters of a ton!
YES -- the story is true.
NO -- we cannot live there.
NO -- we will never get there.
NO -- nothing else lives there, either.
And SUPER-YES -- this story was written to fool people who LOVE science, but don't actually STUDY science. This story has a LOT of exaggerations and "buzz words" like "super earth" to make people THINK that it is more important than it really is.
Don't just LOVE science -- STUDY IT, so that when people tell you "super exaggerated stories" like this, you will be able to tell which is Super B---S--- (like this one) and which have real scientific value.
