Is it possible to build your own solar panels?Really

Many web sights now offer "How To" on solar energy and sell you the directions which is ok. I am a subscriber to Backwoods Home Magazine and I know they have back isuues on this solar panel building, etc. They usually sell for $5 or $6 and mail to you. They also have a manual they put out on this subject for $20. Many who live in the backwoods rely on solar power for their energy needs and build their own systems. I have plans on a solar window collector box that attaches to the window using scrap material. I got this from a Popular Science magazine and plan on building my own, test it and might sell these. Green is the way to go now so get started. You are already interested. You are thinking right!

Yes. Thermal solar panels just have something to absorb solar radiation efficiently (like black fabric), protection from elements, and a heat exchange fluid (usually circulating water). That's not beyond lots of home hobbyists.

Now if you're thinking photovoltaics, you're not going to create your own solar cells at home. You'd have to purchase those, and the electrical knowledge required to use them efficiently for anything other than a battery recharger is substantial. I wouldn't recommend that to most people.

I know a couple ways so yes. Do NOT buy one of those guides on the internet. And do NOT expect to get a good power produceing aray with home made solar cells. But if your interested in a cool science experiment do some reaserch on these terms:
Dye sensetized solar cells
semiconductor technology
Cuperus oxide (a semi conductor)
