Roughly about 6cm's long Really dark black, with a white lightning bolt line on its back!

Sounds like it's most probably a common House Spider at that size.
Completely harmless to humans and pets assuming no allergic reaction occurs.
Bites are very rare as the spider will run and hide, so don't you worry about it coming out and seeking you out, it'll only bite if you go and play with it.
Should you get bitten, there's nothing to worry about at all. Worst case scenario is that you get a little stiffness in your joints and muscles around the bite site and a bit of swelling.
