Tay-Sachs disease is caused by loss-of-function mutation in a gene for lysosomal enzyme. Tay-Sachs is inherited as an autosomal recessive condition. Among Ashkenazi Jews of central European ancestry, about 1 in 3600 children is born with the disease. What fraction of the individuals in this population are carriers?

-
The gene is recessive so you need 2 copies in order to get sick

G^2 = 1/3600 (chance to get 2 copies )

G = SQUAREROOT( 1/3600)
G = 1/40
