I don't live near a pond but there is one a block away from my house. For the past 2 weeks there has been a little group of three ducks that migrate around my house and the houses next to mine. The group is one female duck and two male ducks. I think its funny the two males follow the female and Im curious if this is a common thing in ducks. Also, I've noticed that usually the female does all the work in finding food and the two males just sit there. And if you feed them the female gets most or all of the food.

This is the mating season. The males are competing for the female's attention. The males allow the female to get most of the food because they are trying to impress her and their job is primarily to distract predators and to show the females where to find food. This later switches to the female and young.
