I was outside today and saw two grasshoppers looking like they are humping. One had yellow looking stuff on its body. What was it? It looked almost crust maybe?

It may have been a coating of pollen. I frequently catch flower flies (syrphids) which have a crust of pollen on them. Grasshoppers frequently eat flowers as the nectar provides energy and the pollen gives them protein.
