Are sawfish and sawsharks the same thing?
-
No. The sawfish is a critically endangered species of rays that can grow to over 20 feet long and has a very long snout that has teeth coming out so that it looks like a chainsaw. People often call this a sawSHARK. The sawshark is something different. It also has a chainsaw like snout, but it is much smaller. It grows only up to about 5.6 feet long and it differs in structure from the sawfish because it has two whisker like extensions on its "saw" and its gills are on the side of its body whereas the sawfish's gills are underneath.
