I have 5 kittens living in and around my back yard. I think the mom is around also. They don't have a owner, they have been living there for a while now. Do I just let them be or do I call for animal help or something, what should I do?

Try determining if there is a mother first. If they are less than three or four months old, you can try approaching one kitten slowly and patiently, then hold out a finger gently and slowly, so the kitten can sniff your fingers. If the mother does not show up to defend her kitten, let the kitten get to know you, then try to pick it up and gently and stroke it. By that time the mother cat probably will have shown up. If she is truly feral (wild), put the kitten gently and slowly back on the ground, and let the mother cat take it from there. If the mother cat has just been abandoned, she'll probably be happy that a human being is interested in one of her kittens. If YOU are interested in taking care of the mother and the whole litter for a few months, GREAT. If you want to adopt the mother or one or more kittens, FANTASTIC. You've made a life-long adoring friend who will just love and adore you more with each year. If you don't want to or cannot (apartment manager does not allow pets) adopt either the mother cat or any of the kittens, take them to an animal shelter, preferably a no-kill shelter, where some one like me can adopt them. I've had a shelter cat for more than 4.5 years. My last two cats chose me, not the other way around. When a cat cannot take their eyes off of you and focuses on you with a laser focus as you move around the room, you've been chosen. :-D
