Can deer come in black coat colors

Its rare but not unheard of.Its the same phenomena as a black leopard or panther, called melanism, or even a black dog or squirrel. You would know the difference between a dogs back teeth and those of a deer, even if you dont know anything about skulls.......
I found a carcass today while hiking. At first I thought it was a dog or coyote. But looking up skulls online, the teeth just don't match up. There's not 'fang' teeth in the front. But the teeth on the jaw bone looks like deer teeth.

I have no idea what this could be?

Not sure what sort of bones you found w/o seeing pictures, but to answer your question about the black deer, yes they can be black or a very dark brown in color. It's rare but not unheard of. It's the same phenomena as a black leopard or panther, called melanism, or even a black dog or squirrel.

You would know the difference between a dog's back teeth and those of a deer, even if you don't know anything about skulls. Some of the front teeth may have fallen out or perhaps not. The upper skull of a deer has no teeth at all in the front part, just thin bone, where the fangs would be on a dog. The lower jaw has 6 small, flat teeth in the front, but they often fall out very easily.

NO.....odds are sky-high.....same for albino.
There are dozens of species of deer...related to goats...that DO come in black.

You really cant' tell carnivore from herbivore skulls?By all the teeth, not just the canines?
