On a hot summer day, the closer I get to the water, hence once I am on the beach, it doesn't feel as hot out. The water cools the air. But in the winter its warmer by the water.

The water can hold heat longer than the land so when the land is cooled off the water is still giving off heat

land heats faster and cools quicker than the ocean. So in Summer you will have cool breezes from the ocean towards the land on hot days and at night these breezes will reverse and blow out toward the sea. Hope I've kept it simple enough.
