Ive been told that in order to make glass you must take sand and launch it into the omega sun, is this true?......

I've been told that in order to make glass you must take sand and launch it into the omega sun, is this true?

answers:
Andrew Smith say: Perhaps if you are trying to make pure silicon dioxide ( quartz crystal ) glass then you might need a spare omega sun or two to do the job.
I have seen a few glass factories that make the glass that we use and, unless the sun is rather small, they get away with a lesser source of heat.

But hey, why would you let FACTS get in the way of a good BELIEF?
Politics has a place for YOU!

yesctyr say: So if you take silica sand like the kind at most beaches once you remove the little sea shells and combine it with sodium carbonate(washing soda) and heat it to like 800C it will melt into a gooey clear mass called water glass when cooled looks just like glass but will dissolve in water over time. Now take and add some Calcium Oxide(lime) and this will raise the melting point up to about 1000C but this glass will perty much resists water but scratches very easily - this is the glass of the old west and the 19th century. Today glass contains a few more additives depending on what you want it to do - like Pyrex adds Boron to make microwave safe and test tubes. Maybe the Potash(potassium oxide) talked about here makes it more resistant to scratching? Add nickel and you create glass that no longer stops ultraviolet rays from the sun passing thru it - glass you can tan under.

spot a say: No, that is not true. Besides we only have one sun here and you can make glass with sand and potash if you can get your fire hot enough, around 3,110 degrees F or 1710 degrees C

bubby say: I've been told in order to make sense of what you are saying I would have to launch you into the omega sun to sober you up..
-
Ronald 7 say: You take some top quality Silica sand
Heat it up to 3, 100 degrees F
Add some Potash
Pee in it and Bingo
High Quality Glass
-
Nyx say: You were told wrong.

jehen say: No. You only need to heat good quality silica sand to about 3100f degrees with a few additives like potash.
-
G. Whilikers say: Well, that's ONE way to do it.
-
Pearl L say: it nnight be if sonneone told you that
-
billrussell42 say: huh? what is the omega sun? glass is made by melting sand, basically.
-
PhotonX say: No. I guess that was supposed to be funny, wasn't it?

Bill-M say: What is the omega sun??? never heard of it.

to make glass you take sand and heat it in a special OVEN.
-
Morningfox say: If you claim that you were told something, who are we to say that you were not told that? Now if you had asked, "in order to make glass, you must take sand ...", that would be a different question. But in effect, you asked, "is it true that I was told X?". You did not ask, "is X true?"

John say: Yes
