Thanks!!-½ * 1000 x² + (8)(9.solve by quadratic equation formula, and choose positive value for x,x = 0.......
A 8.00-kg block drops straight down from a height of 1.00 m, striking a platform spring having force constant 1.00 X 10^3 N/m. Find the maximum compression of the spring.

The answer is d=0.482 m. Please help me work this out step by step. Thanks!!

ΔE = 0

-½ k x² + mg(h + x) = 0

-½ * 1000 x² + (8)(9.8)(1 + x) = 0

solve by quadratic equation formula, and choose positive value for x,

x = 0.482 m
