The airplane has a mass of 1000kg. Calculate the total mechanical energy of the airplane.KE=.5mv^2.........
A small airplane is flying at an altitude of 5,000 meters at a velocity of 100 m/s. The airplane has a mass of 1000kg. Calculate the total mechanical energy of the airplane.

ME=PE+KE

KE=.5mv^2 ...Ke=.5(1,000)(100)^2
KE=5,000,000

PE=mgh...Pe=(1,000)(10)(5,000)
PE=50,000,000

ME=55,000,000 J

Looks perfect to me, and well set-out too!
I'd change my answer into 55 MJ though, but only because I think it's a lot of fun to say MEGAJOULES!
Maybe that's just me...
