Alright, so my band director put me in charge of pyrotechnics for the 1812 overture. We need to have a cannon-esque explosion, in tempo, without a projectile. She doesn't want to buy a cannon, so i have to build one this weekend. Any ideas on how to make an in tempo big boom without a projectile. My idea was to have a potato cannon with a piece of paper taped to the end. Maybe even a propane potato cannon?

the "BOOM" is the pressure wave of an explosion not the projectile
anything that produces sudden heat energy and pressure
IS DANGEROUS BY DEFINITION
you have to know what you are doing
a modest "bang" with a lot of smoke is impressive
the potato cannon just means the potato comes flying out. not much noise
you want a large mouth area like a tuba and sudden explosion
talk to the science teacher
Could you use a very very large speaker system with a recorded cannon noise?
need LOTS of electrical power and May cause hearing damage close up
Cannoneers ususally go deaf
