If you are not hallucinating and if it really is some paranormal entity, it could be following you for any number of reasons. Again, if you live in the same house as when you were a kid, it could be attached to the house itself. Otherwise, it could have attached itself to you simply because your fear gives it more psychic energy to draw on.
Hearing your name is also easily explained by natural causes. The first might be another simple hallucination. A psychiatrist once told me that it is perfectly normal to hear your own name spoken from time to time. I used to hear my son calling me on a fairly regular basis when he wasn't even at home. The doctor said it is because we are conditioned to hear our name, so we just hear it. Nothing freaky or "crazy" about it. Another explanation is that we sometimes think we hear familiar sounds in "white noise". People sometimes hear wind chimes while in the shower...or people talking while vacuuming. If your brain can't understand what it's hearing, then it will piece together random sounds and interpret them as something familiar. (There is a word for this, but I can't remember what it is.) The sound you are hearing could be something as simple as a car driving by or air coming through a crack in a window casing.
Now, if it's not one of those, then you might actually be hearing someone whisper your name. Most EVPs that I've heard were faster than one would normally speak. I once heard someone say that ghosts speak at higher frequencies than living persons. That would explain why your name comes across so fast.
Without more information, it's really hard to give advice. If this entity (if it actually is an entity) has not physically harmed you or caused any kind of turmoil in your home, I would probably say ignore it. If it actually looks as you describe, then I wouldn't try to contact it in any way. No benevolent spirit that I know of ever looked that scary.
