I am about to pull my hair out. I put in all these variations for the years in L1 and got the wrong answer every time. Since it was AFTER the year 1960, and my first year is 1967, I put 7, then subtracted 1960 for ea subseq year on list and input that #. Got wrong answer. So, I started with O, then subtracted 1960 for ea subseq year on list and input that #. Got wrong answer. Ok, then I put ALL the actual years in the way listed on table, wrong answer again. Then, I put in the last two numbers of the yrs, didn't work. I put in 7 (ans for 1967-1960) then for the next #'s I subtracted them from 1967 (grasping at straws here) All wrong.
One thing is the number for cost is in the millions, so when I enter them I get E in number, (i.e. 3,000,000 = 3E6) Maybe I need to enter those different. It's SO nice my math book says to enter this but nowhere does it tell me how. My teacher listed the actual years (for a diff problem) but they were in chrono order. Then, one prob on web had 0 as starting number because the problem said "x=0 for the year so and so" (which WAS the first year on the table list ) However,my prob is not like that. (mine says x=year after 1960; list starts w/ year 1967) sigh
Here is the list...A one minute ad during Super Bowl cost 200k. The price for a 30sec ad during SB was 3 million. The table gives cost for 30 sec ad during years 1967-2011. (mind you, some years have gaps in them)
Years: 1967, '73, '90, '92, '94, '96, '98, 2000-2011 < list seperately.
Cost: 42,500; 100k; 700k; 800k; 900k; 1,100,000; 1,300,000; 2,100,000; 2,050,000; 1,900,000; 2,100,000; 2,250,000; 2,400,000; 2,500,000; 2,385,000; 2,700,000; 3,000,000; 2,974,000; 3,000,000
Answer is..y= 0.002x^2-0.043x+0.253
I get this stat>calc.5.QuadReg (using L1 list starting with 7, 13, (#'s minus 1960) )
a= 1962.131273
b= -42626.78837
c= 252718.7165
R^2= .9730923168
