it was so much more interesting with two variables.
just expand RHS, then simplify:
2x^2 - 12x + 14 = (x - 3)^2
2x^2 - 12x + 14 = x² - 6x + 9
x^2 - 6x + 5 = 0
(x - 1)(x - 5) = 0
x = 1 or x = 5
