N=Number-Youre halfway there (: But you forgot the five times part, it seems.Ill give you an example, but you dont have to look if you dont want that.Ten times the sum of four and a number would be 10 x (4 + n). Hope I helped!......
Can someone please help me. I am not good at math and I am trying my hardest but I am not catching on. I am out of high school. I just need to pass my math OGT to receive my High school diploma. I dont understand algebraic expressions.

I do not want answers but just an explanation of how to write them.

Here is one of my problems

Five times the difference between 6 and a number.

Would I write it as 6-n. N=Number

You're halfway there (: But you forgot the "five times" part, it seems.

I'll give you an example, but you don't have to look if you don't want that.

"Ten times the sum of four and a number" would be 10 x (4 + n). Hope I helped! (:

y=5(6-n)

The difference between 6 and a number is: 6-n

Then it says that it is 5 times that amount. So you multiply it all by 5.

-
Difference between 6 and n can be written as 6-n or n-6 . Now 5 times the difference will give us 5(6-n) or 5(n-6) .

-
difference means subtract......times means multiply..........number means N
5•(6-N)

-
5(6-n) where n=number
