Geraldo is going to paint the interior walls of the lobby of the local history museum. The room is 40ft by 60ft. Its height is 16ft. In order to purchase the right amount of paint, Geraldo must calculate the lateral surface area of the room. What is the lateral surface area?

okay you have two wall that are 40 feet wide and 16 foot high
so the area is 2 x 40 x 16 = 1280sq ft
you have 2 walls that are 60 ft wide and 16 foot high
so the area is 2 x 60 x 16 = 1920 sq ft

total 1280+ 1920 = 3,200sq ft

you should find the answer to be 3200ft^2 because 60*16=1920 and 40*16=1280 1280+1920=3200
