1). The shaded region is approximately 21.5 sq cm
#3). The area is 137.1 sq cm

-
1. The answer to number one is D. First you must find the area of the square which is l*w (10*10). Next you must find the area of the circle, (pi)r^2 (pi*radius[squared]). Which is 5*5=25, so 3.14*25= 78.5. Then you subract 78.5 from 100(the area of the square).

2. The answer to number three is B. First you find the area of the circle then divide it by two. Then you find the area of the rectangle and add that to the (half)area of the circle. The final answer is 137.1.

[[[factualistic subexaminer]]] IS WRONG, the circle is only a half circle for number THREE! IM IN GEOMETRY.

1.

The whole square is 10 * 10 cm. 100 cm. The circle's area is pi * 5 * 5. 78.5. Subtract the area of the circle from the square, and you have 21.5. Final answer.

3.

8 * 14 = 112. That is the area of the rectangle. The circle is pi * 4 * 4. 50.24. 50.24 + 112 = 162.24, which rounds off to 162.2. Final answer.

-
1. A(shaded) = A(square) - A(circle)
A(shaded) = 10^2 - pi5^2
A(shaded) = 100 - 25pi
A(shaded) ~ 21.46018366

3. A = 1/2(pi(r)^2) + lw
A = 1/2(16pi) + 112
A ~ 137.1 square centimeters

-
1. (s^2)-(pi)(r^2)
3. lxw +((pi)(r^2)\2)
